Gloria Chu / Composer & Performer

In addition to a full-time teaching studio, Gloria is devoted to composing creative works for multiple instruments. She is a multi-award winning composer of chamber, violin, cello, and piano works. Her compositions have been praised to “transport [the audience] into a heavenly world” by International Youth Music Competitions. Several of her pedagogical works have been featured in the Alliance for Canadian New Music Projects Contemporary Showcase syllabus. Her awards and recognitions include six Winning Awards from Alberta Piano Teachers Association Creative Music Writing Competition, Canadian Folk Song Arrangement Prize, First Place at the USA Modern and Contemporary Competition and First Place in Provincial Alberta Registered Music Teachers’ Association Student Composition. Gloria holds two master’s degrees: MA in Piano (University of Ottawa) and MA in Strings (University of Chichester). She has been recognized by Steinway & Sons with a Top Teacher Award and is the recipient of the Royal Conservatory of Music Teacher of Distinction Award for her leadership as a music educator. Gloria has given presentations at city, provincial and national conferences on music learning topics. Her innovative teaching methods and pedagogy compositions motivate students to develop confidence in expressing their unique voice in both music and life. 

In celebration for Canada’s 150th Birthday, Gloria’s arrangement of She’s Like a Swallow, Piano Trio for Cello, Violin and Piano was awarded the Canadian Folk Song Arrangement Prize by Jessie Plessis.  She received First Place in her Division for the Alberta Registered Music Teachers’ Association Provincial Composition with Persist, Piano Trio for Cello, Violin and Piano has been selected to participate in the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers’ Association to compete at the national level. 

As a performer Gloria actively participates in her community as a pianist, string instrumentalist and vocalist.  She has performed internationally with Académie Musicale Internationale in Vaison-la-Romaine (Provence) in France, throughout the states and Canada. In 2024 she performed with Olivia Chung in the New York the World Premiere of her latest composition, Suite Tears for a cello and piano. She passionately loves performing and enjoys both solo and chamber works.

Piano Accompaniment

Gloria Chu works with experienced students and professional artists as a piano accompanist. With over 9 years of experience in piano accompaniment with the violin and voice, she has worked as a chamber partner to musicians in Canada and the United States.
